Frequently Asked Questions

What translations and texts are included?

Ancient Bible Reader includes the original Greek New Testament, Hebrew Old Testament, the complete Septuagint (LXX), and the Berean Standard Bible for modern comparison. We also include deuterocanonical/apocryphal texts for comprehensive study.

Do I need an internet connection to use the app?

No! Ancient Bible Reader is completely offline after the initial download. All texts and translations are stored locally on your device. This ensures you can access Scripture anywhere, whether you're in a remote location or simply want to avoid distractions.

Can I compare multiple translations side-by-side?

Yes! One of our key features is the ability to compare multiple translations simultaneously. You can view them in a clean table format or inline layout, making it easy to see how different translators handled specific passages. The app automatically suggests adding the LXX when you select deuterocanonical books.

What are the deuterocanonical books?

The deuterocanonical books are texts included in the Septuagint (Greek Old Testament) but not in the Hebrew Masoretic Text. These include books like Tobit, Judith, Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach, Baruch, and 1-4 Maccabees. They provide valuable historical and theological context for understanding the intertestamental period.

How much storage space does the app require?

The full app with all texts requires approximately 20 MB of storage space. This includes all original language texts and translations.

Is this app suitable for beginners?

Yes! While it includes original language texts, the Berean Standard Bible provides clear, modern English. The interface is simple and clean, making it easy to navigate even if you're just curious about what the Greek or Hebrew says for a particular verse.

What makes this different from other Bible apps?

It's extremely simple and focused. Unlike apps with social features or complex interfaces, this just gives you direct access to Greek, Hebrew, and LXX texts for quick reference. Everything works offline, it's completely free, and there are no ads or tracking.

Can I search within the texts?

Not yet.

Which Greek and Hebrew texts are used?

We use the widely-accepted critical texts that are standard in academic and seminary settings. The Greek text is based on modern critical editions (the Macula SBLGNT), and the Hebrew text follows the Masoretic tradition (Westminster Leningrad Codex). The LXX is Swete's edition from the First1KGreek project.

Is there a cost or subscription?

Ancient Bible Reader is completely free with no subscriptions, in-app purchases, or hidden fees. We believe simple Bible study tools should be accessible to everyone without financial barriers.

Can I copy or share text from the app?

Yes, you can copy verses and passages for virtually anything, note-taking, or sharing. These texts are all CC0, CC-BY, or CC-BY-SA, so go to town!

What devices are supported?

Ancient Bible Reader is available for iOS (iPhone and iPad), Android devices, and web browsers. The app is optimized for both phone and tablet interfaces, with larger screens providing enhanced side-by-side comparison capabilities.

How often is the app updated?

We may update the app occasionally to improve performance, fix any issues, and add new features based on user feedback. The core biblical texts remain stable, but we may refine the reading experience and user interface.

Can I adjust text size and formatting?

Absolutely! The app includes comprehensive text formatting options including font size adjustment, line spacing, and different layout modes. You can customize the display to match your reading preferences and device screen size.

Is my reading progress saved?

Yes, the app automatically remembers your last reading position and saves your preferred settings. If you frequently switch between books or translations, you can easily return to where you left off in your study.

Do you track user data or show ads?

Never. We do not track anything—not your reading habits, personal data, or anything. Your Bible study is completely private. The app functions entirely offline after download, ensuring your privacy is protected at all times.

We won't even know if anyone is using the app unless you leave a review!
